Urgent Appeals and Advocacy
Bridging Grassroots and International Opinion for change.
Asian Human Rights Commission
(AHRC) is working with grassroots organisations in Sri Lanka on
projects that have succeeded in linking local and national efforts
with regional and international institutions in what appears to be
a very effective way of preventing the occurrence of torture. This
seems to be a way of linking true grassroots organisations directly
to the international system and thereby bypassing the urban-based
elite that traditionally seems to have dominated the field of human
rights in Sri Lanka. AHRC is now replicating its model in other
Asian countries.
